American Politics, British Diplomacy and Buddha’s Intelligent Inquiry-Kalama Sutta

If I have not read Kalama Sutta by the age of 16 years, I  may have, to begin with, would have been caught up and swallowed by the rationalist (almost nonfunctional today in this irrational country Sri-Lanka) deliberates.
There are 13 qualifications, one has to apply if one is an open inquirer.
So read Kalama Sutta before reading this.
I ended up as an independent thinker, never believing anything what the white man said.
We were under 500 years of foreign invader influence, it is probably inbuilt in my system not to believe them and probably many Sri-Lankan of today have lost that inbuilt defense we had, especially the politicians and political refuges who leave and become prisoners of conscience.
I can dispense with British easily.
In about 6 months in Britain, I realized that what they say is not what they mean.
That included medical men too.
This is at ground zero level where most of us end up in Britain.
In diplomatic level they do it in a professional manner and unlike the ordinary British who survive on a meager salary, they are paid very well.
How better or brazenly one can lie while blazing a blue-collar and tie is the standard of British Diplomacy, at all levels.
They do not mean what they say.
Only people who can beat them in the game are Americans.
(Compare President Bush and PM Blair relationship)
I have had limited association with the Americans and it took many years of rational and independent analysis, only after leaving them though, to get the correct  assessment and true picture of what they really meant.
See how Obama came into power with full-scale liberal views and end up as a stubborn personality and not listening to people power but continuing what Bush did better than what Bush would have figured it out but pretend to the whole world he is different.

Unlike British there are some genuine and stupid Americans too.

Otherwise they would not have elected him for the first time.
If they elect him for second time my above genuine analysis would be confirmed without any doubt or contention.
Polls as at present prove that I am right at this point of time.
Unlike British they pay well for your services.
I do not know how one is paid under President Obama.
I am not interested who should become the next American President, let the stupid and brilliant Americans decide it.
But they are well advised by me to read the Kalama Sutta before voting next time round.
Coming back to America and American politics, they are not a benevolent society.
Obama pretended to be benevolent to the masses but he is truly benevolent  to the rich.

Chrysler bail out is one object lesson.
They have the capitalist mentality at all levels and success depends on how much one is prepared to get returns for initial investment.
Good examples are Microsoft and Speculators.
Now that Microsoft is having a nose dive, Apple is trying to get into that niche.
I-pads and educational material that they are planning to copyright are trying to swallow the stupid Americans in one stroke.
They propagate the universal truth which a myth by all standards, more educated one is and more one spends on education, more productive one is when employed.
But no education standards were necessary to get the bail outs.
The standard is how bad an American fails in his or her business.
What ever the voters may say they always win and many a small Americans will have to foot the bill.
In this context, Amazon did an amazing and wonderful thing by introducing Kindle Fire (selling below cost price) and creating http://www.createspace.com, in this big business world of Education and the hold that the publishers have on writers.
They are all out to kill this experiment.
Amazon is a successful business empire.
There is nothing wrong with it.
But at least in education Amazon’s vision is somewhat benevolent.
American politics who ever who becomes the next president will kill this endeavour  in its budding stage.
I hope I have not jumped or triggered the America gun mentality.
Time will tell what I say now will be right or wrong.
It is tilted towards ipad and Big Apple and not towards Amazon’s effort.
If Apple wins it is a disaster for the entire world of education.

Amazon Silk the answer to Web Browsers that are Heavy (Weights)

I hate almost all the web browsers in current use except light weight Linux derivatives.
Linux derivatives are light on your computer and has utilities to block unnecessary cookies and erase the memory at the end of a web session.
All the web browsers have become bulky over the years and have left enough security holes.
I will list few of the Linux browsers  I like most before talking about the game-changer Amazon-Silk.
I hope it will become bulky in time but have enough security patches since lot of young kids are going to use it on daily basis.
1.IceApe and its Suite
2. Dillo
3. SeaMonkey
4. IceWeasel
5. Midori
Mobile Web Kits
6.Opera Mobile (Mini)
7.Android WebKit
8.Safari
9.BlackBerry WebKit
10. Dolfin-Samsung
11.Nokia WebKit
12.Phantom
13.MicroB-Nokia
14. Firefox   Gecko in MeeGo
Note Gecko  is a FireFox Light derivative that comes from Linux origin, from good old days of Linux and unfortunately IE and FireFox has lot of work to do to get to Mobile Industry.
IE and FireFox are gorilla derivative of internet.
I believe Linux distributions should all have some alternative Lightweight web browsers included in their distributions.
It is interesting that SwiftLinux which has done a good job of it in its recent version.
These light weight stuff can be used in Mobile and Cloud Computing and now that Amzon has shown the way by splitting the resources we going to have frantic activity in this arena with mobile to lure.
Amazon’s Silk approach is admirable and it is going to be a game-changer.
I think all the web browsers have to go on a diet soon or have at least two versions.
One for mobile and cloud and the other for the desktop.

Amazon and Kindle on Fire and the Game-changer

Within three years, Amazon and its Kindle derivative is going to rock the web with applications that none of us could say No.
At a time of credit and debt crisis Amazon’s investment on knowledge on a slate (tablet) is going to rock the boat of many aspiring companies including Google.
Unlike the ‘flame wars” in Linux community both these Linux derivatives Google Chrome Tab and Amazon’s Kindle Tab going to shape the world for better.
Knowledge wise.
It is not going to be iPods and Apple.
Apple is too expensive for poor debt ridden world including America.
(If only GOP and Democrats can get together and get US out of the war mongering American companies to begin with, the Real Dream  of the average American will come true.
We were a country infested with this disease for over 3 decades.
The War.
The biggest casualty of this war was the lowering of our educational standards and not training good teachers.
Most of the good teachers left us for better pastures.
We did not train teachers in English, Maths, Computer Science (IT) and Science in adequate numbers.
All the efforts were focused on the war and even afterward there is  still some bickering going on.
Successive generations of children were neglected (war-neglected) and unfortunately some children were recruited to war efforts).
The children born now should have a better future irrespective of where they are born.
This is where good American companies (not MacDonald, Kentucky or Coca COLA) like Amazon should stretch their arm here and into the third world with education utilities at an affordable price.
We do not want things like IBM Classmates.
That is also only for the rich American children.
We do not want things free too.
I do not believe in giving children free stuff and the same stuff like school uniforms and books not updated for 30 years.
Then they do not value them.
I have my own story.
We were not rich and most of my classmates were the same.
We used slate and slate pencils.
I had my  slate (only used 3 for the entire school years) and slate pencil till I entered the University.
Then in the second year (term 5) when I passed the first examination, I was very happy I wanted to donate my precious slate to a poor kid in my neighbourhood.
I found a kid and gave it to him stating that he should do well in school.
Three months later when I came on vacation, I visited his house to see he had broken it in no time.
Mind you keeping a slate for 15 odd years without breaking it is no mean task.
Knowing this my kids leave all their valuable stuff including some dolls in my room, knowing very well, they are in safe hands and my room is a junkyard full of computers and bizarre array of things.
This is of course after donating 95% of the stuff.
Their grandma who is no more was very good at disposing the stuff.
This was a kid of a different generation.
Consumerist and did not value it as a gift.
They do not conserve.
Had he used it properly I would have helped his entire schooling career.
It was not to be.
My father and I had the habit of donating my used books (I used to keep them in very good condition unlike children of today) once I have finished  using them.
I have never sold them, even secondhand (some very expensive books).
Our teachers were good and they feared School Inspector.
Teaching was a noble profession then.
Now our teachers do not teach in the class but have tuition classes for money in the afternoon.
(But our politicians came and ruined what was left of English system and  the number of schools (they are all Buddhist Schools) built by an American philanthropist colonel Sir Henry Olcott.
It is a common practice that principals  in these school takes bribes to admit children.
Not only that they ruined the schools built on the temple premises too, by elevating them to a very different status.
Our education system is in a mess.
We cannot resurrect them to good old days).
The system is incorrigible.
There is digital divide too.
City children fare better than village kids but due to the quota system bright city children (who have achieved the required standard) are deprived of getting into the University.
Some of them with money (having sold their ancestral homes to raise money) go abroad and never return.
Many of them do not succeed having gone out and do menial jobs.
What am getting at is the Kindle gadgets are in the affordable range even for the third world.
They are the game-changer.
They can replace what is lacking in most of our teachers.
Dependability, durability and the ability to update the knowledge base.
If we cannot change the manpower (attitude of the teachers) then we should change the fire power which Kindle will have.
They should be packed with educational materials.
Out parents will do the needful if not the teachers.
Amazon should divert 1% of their profits to education of children under 12.
They should reach them with Kindle and the Cloud.
They should do that in America first and show the world that they do care for their own kids.
I am sure Obama will be all ready to help.
Unlike previous presidents he has given the knowledge base a powerful kick and an uplift.
Whatever the failures in economic front if Obama does the ground work for changing dynamics of 21st century education his name will be written in gold.
The companies that back that impetus will last longer than the people who owned it.
Look for the longevity.
Amazon is  a Key Company.
Rest of the world will have to follow its footsteps.
UNICEF is dead now and U.N.O does not care.
What UNICEF and U.N.O unable to do Amazon can do better in education.
Amazon should never give this stuff free to the third world.
The education system of  a particular country should deserve whatever they receive as educational tools (Amazon or Google) with proper outcome based plan.
Not simple doles.
Beauty  in the third world is that the parents do their best to make the life of their children better.
What is ruining their aspiration is the education system which is not prepared to change and take bold actions so that there is equitable distribution of education resources.
Cloud, the Kindle and the Google, the ChromeOS can do that with training and infrastructure improvement.
Unfortunately we do not have a satellite of our own.
Satellite systems should improve to take the cloud computing forward.
A lot of planning at global scale should happen.
Land based internet system want reach everybody.
That is why I say the education material should focus on under 12 for the next 10 years.
A lot of things will change in this decade if not the end of the world as predicted.
We already have system for adults and older children.
They may have to pay for the services but that is how things are as at present.
Nobody should grumble paying for a good service especially education.
Universal education with poor quality (that is what we have now in our country) is no substitute for appropriate education at appropriate age and time.
It looks like our education system kills the interest of the kids.

They are arcane.

Ten (10) or more things I would like to see happening before the end of 1012.

Ten (10) or more things I would like to see happening before the end of 1012.

Some saints are predicting end of the world by 2012 but I have a few predictions and I would like to see some of them happening before the end of 2012.

I will list them here first and would enlarge upon them on a future date depending on the time at my disposal.

These are made without any attachment to any country or state or company at large.

The concept I would like to develop is that there should be greater good to the average person on the street or is born every 7 seconds or so  to this World / Century with IT industry expanding and penetrating into every corner of life from medicine to agriculture to information technology.

Everybody enjoys music.

Similarly everybody loves reading a magazine or daily paper.

Both have become part of our lives.

Cellphone is universal now.

Information and its technology is no different.

Information should not be concentrated on few rich countries nor few rich companies nor a few rich guys/girls.

When OLPS came up everything possible was done to kill its impact in its infancy by the rich and the powerful.

Unfortunately credit crisis and debt crisis came in at the same time and put a powerful lid around spread of information to the poorer countries and copyright laws and similar instruments are used to keep the knowledge hub in the hand of vested interests.

This cannot go on for ever, if we have a defunct Organization called United Nations Organization.

U.N.O does not think that Linux exists but only Microsoft and Apple.

Unite Nations does not even have a Language Policy now.

Only English is dominating.

I cannot go there and address an audience in plain Sinhala but Linux and Debian/Fedora can do that without the support of UNO.

Linux Community has done a lot to World Languages much more than the White Elephant U.N.O.

Vatican uses one Linux computer and U.N.O does not have even one from the statistics available currently on the web.

This organization should be closed for good since the end of the world is already predicted by the saints and Maurians.

If not me American politicians think so and would not like to spend money running this organization except their interests.

What I state here should come from U.N.O or W.H.O but the guys and girls there are only interested in Human Rights of some godforsaken countries deprived of every possible avenue of help; from poverty, hunger to malnutrition and exploitation of rich mineral sources by corrupt rulers and administrators who come to power or attempt to come to power by not so democratic means  or by shear deception (L.T.T.E and their backers included).

It is true that a few western countries which dominate the world  of IT industry.

That domination should end, sooner than late.

1. In my list Apple Mac comes first.

Its domination with its pricing scale should come to an end sooner than late. It should be affordable if not it should be replaced by similar applications.

Could alternatives fill in?

Yes Linux can do that.

2. Domination of Microsoft should end.

It is already happening thanks to its own creation of wealth around itself.

Linux has already made inroads and has enough weaponry to offset any more exploitations.

But windows 8 has already gone paranoid.

3. Domination of IBM in high tech area should be squeezed especially its classmate kits for rich kids.

It can be done easily with tablets and anti-androids that come from the Asian continent.

4. Google will kill itself by following policies similar to Microsoft in its Android (Linux inventions tampered with minor details) manifestation.

5. Intel’s domination should end with alternative chip making and it’s already happening.

There are alternative chip manufacturers.

If I am attacking all the powerful companies is there anything left to fill the gap.

Yes there is enough.

6. Amazon should step in.

Its kindle, its publishing arm, its cloud services and powerful marketing philosophy should move forward and take the lead and stretch its arm all over  the world including China and India.

This should come before U.N.O declare human right violation in China.

In India Human Right Violations including rape happens everyday.

Nobody talks after IMF incident.

Yes it’s an American adventure but it does not matter if it is doing the right thing at the right time for the children of the world and ordinary masses.

I hope the CEOs there make the right decision for this century and be proud after 100 years from now.

Amazon had been doing a silent service.

Its cloud service going to be the next important thing that will change how things should be shaped up right now.

We must not let Oracle with its powerful database machinery to take over the IT industry with other selfish collaborators.

7. Cloud computing is going to shape up everything from year 2012.

Linux has developed all the tool kits.

It looks like rich companies are going to hijack all the innovations that came from Linux.

We must put an end to this.

There are over 100 very good Linux distributions out there.

If we let the current trends to dictate about 10 companies will determine the wealth of information while Mr Bunki Moon and Mrs.Pillay are dabbling with human right issues while allowing USA and UK going unscathed.

The 10 or so companies are gearing  readily albeit  slowly to strangle the whole world economy.

Nobody in the U.N.O speaks.

Those human rights issues are carrots to donkeys, issues when compared to what you see how things are shaping up in the West in the IT industry.

I am here with Richard Stallman.

What free software and Linux achieved over the last 20 years will be used by these few companies and become much more richer.

There are 10 Linux distributions for each exploiting company as it is now. They should divert their resources to take up the challenge and cloud computing seriously.

Ubuntu One is there.

CloudUSB and JoliOS are also there both Ubuntu derivatives.

Then there is Mobilin derivative MeeGo.

Why can’t the other distribution take some lead now?

8. What can the China do.

It can do a lot.

It can flood the market with tablets with anti-androids.

Its space industry (GIS -Global Internet Service) should take over the Internet service sector and cloud computing.

India cannot contribute anything to this scenario since they are taken for a ride by the American companies and American interests.

Mind you Chinese use graphic language unlike English which is words language.

Graphic language is far superior in the tablet and cloud industry.

Even the people without English knowledge can use the technology  with graphics and charts included without reading a word.

This is where Chinese innovation and invasion is good for the world economy.

India is not ready and that is the biggest advantage for China.

9. For over 100 years what we used were slate and slate pencil.

Instead of the slate and the pencil, tablet, the mini-version of the portable computer and the cellphone alternatives will be the game changer from 2012.

Governments providing obsolete printed books Sri-Lanka included will be the thing of the past very soon.

What is preventing is the cost of the (OLPS for example) O.E.M.

Tablet will change everything from communication to way we teach and learn.

Is U.N.O ready.

Not at all UNICEF is dead now and only a concept.

Only hindrance is the speed of the Internet.

Moment this barrier is broken like the sound barrier of the last century, everything will change.

The game changer has come to live but U.N.O is sleeping with it Mr.Bunki Moon.

It will be sooner than we have anticipated.

More satellites and fibro-optic connections will take IT industry forward.

We Sri-Lankan do not have a satellite of our own even  though the country is placed in a superior position in the GeoSpace.

10. What is necessary is training of personnel to take over the this challenge but that is where we are the slowest and the laziest.

There is a lot of resistance to change.

That is the human nature but few powerful companies are pushing us towards this goal whether we like it or not.

But U.N.O is sleeping.

We must be ready with alternative strategies as well as alternative technologies.

Linux can provide it. Its Community Spirit is more powerful than the USA or the sleeping U.N.O.

Already 95% of the industry depends on Linux.

We must not let 10 or more companies to take the copyright ownership of the Linux achievements.

This is specially so because U.N.O is sleeping on big capitals.

I hope this piece of writing is also a game changer.
