Like the canonicals Unity Desktop, Google has jump stated on Linux base and it is time for Microsoft to re-engineer the wheel of IT technology.
Buying Skype may not solve its problems of insecurity and virus base.
Glossy front but ineffective back end would slow it down but it is wrong to say or think that Microsoft is finally dead due to poor mutation (genetically speaking) evolutionary wise of IT industry.
Cloning something is easy but when something is inherently faulty, the evolutionary process adapt the survival of the fittest strategy to chose the best genes for the current generation and even though Linux did not mastermind the sea change, it looks a successful business venture with its search engine has won the day and the battle.
By embracing Linux it has hit two bird with one stone.
Battles will continue but who will come upfront is at best, only a guesswork in changing market forces.
I put my dollar on Unity for its bold step of coming forward and by not ignoring the user base.
Modern users are not worried about what is inside and what company (Thiawan, China and Hongkong are banking on this) is making money (except financial speculators and investors who do not contribute to innovations but making money on a side, until the next “bubble burst”) but the added functionality and the affordable pricing. They are not interested in who has the biggest bag of money. They are worried about what is left in their pocket to buy other essentials.
Thanks god it is hapeening in the western world consumers are becoming wiser.
I am not at all against business success of any company but when a company uses FUD psychology, Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt as a strategy in evolution it is bound to fail in real world with real people.
This was what happened to Microsoft whereas Apple only focused on high end and remained there for its own worth. That strategy also might change if we hit another financial crisis which we cannot avoid as the way things are developing.
Hunger may may be the next wave that will take us by surprise if we get engrossed only in technology.
So cutting down cost and wastage are important.
Recycling and stability of a product to last at least a decade is a virtue. It is a madness to buy the next cute thing every December, knowing very well the cute thing today is in the dustbin in few years time. All this time the third world was the dustbin of rejects from the first world (industrial world).
That equation is also changing fast with commodity price of all things going up by the minute.
Sri-Lanka is a good example where every thing, form electricity, to telephone charges, to water bills to food prices are going up by the minute and in time to come even the air we breath will be taxed but polluted.
Disposable era might abruptly end when shortages (rare metal and even integrated circuits) hit the market.
Emerging signs are of that nature.
Google also uses cloud computing as its next line of defense and as resource pooling. Instead of outsourcing (the name of the game which is active today), the next wave should be the resource pooling and best use of what we already have.
Transport sector is a good example and everybody driving to work is going to be a nightmare of the 21st century. Everybody having a ipod or similar device cannot be applied to every innovation of mankind.
There are going to be bottlenecks and bottlenecks strangle economy both rich and poor. Transport is only one example but there are many bottlenecks new and old.
If not business strategy Linux also should look at business acumen of Google for its success without hampering its original goal and vision an design.
There should be some business plan for some of the successful Linux distributions and canonical taking UNITY forward should not be looked at with squinted eye.
Why aren’t we looking with the same squinted eye when we look at Google.
That is my question for the intellectuals in the IT industry especially the Linux guys with talent.
Success breeds success.
Failures (Linux included) leads to bigger failures.
This is a strategy applied in field of sports and in war games and terrorism, too.
Nobody talks about a failed team (cricket) or a failed army.
It is nice to see America is taking a cue from us (Sri-Lanka) and taking terrorism head on.
When we started not listening to the West and the so called NGO (most of the NGOs are a waste which are good at prodding sectarial agenda) and the World Bank, things started moving.
We must decide our own agenda for our own survivial in the rapidly changing world dynamics.
The Old World Order dominated by USA is a hindrance to world peace, NATO and Bunki Moon included.
Human Rights watch and amnesty International are only a cover up for the old world order.
We have to design a New World Order (I do not believe USA and UK with duplicity in their actions can do that) not dominated by USA and thier 4 yearly Predential Cycle.
It looks Obama pull a triger for hist next reelection but third world problems will contnue if we play to their hands.
China should and would step up the trends with their efforts and by strangling their economy by design first and by political will later.
That is why I call WiKiLeks is a blessing in disguise and putting him in jail won’t solve any of the current problems of USA.
But they should not apply double standard like Microsoft and USA politics (and their ambassadors all over the world).
Duplicity never works.
We need genuine international efforts.
It is not the old world order now.
It is a new world order now and everybody should be transparent not naked in their actions.
They should have realized it before the WiKiLeaks.
It is too late to repair the damage done.
